Mount Sturgeon - Emi looking at things
The Hike
In our previous Grampians trip, we hiked the main trails (Pinnacle Loop etc) around Halls Gap, so this time we were looking for a change of scenery. Mount Sturgeon seemed like a good choice for the anticipated bad weather. Plus we got to follow the very long and scenic road all the way from Halls Gap down to the southern tip of the Grampians.
Wildlife (Roos & Wallabies) abound - eyes on the road everyone!
Generally, the hike was pretty harmless, a few minor scramblings (more like uneven stairs carved from the natural stone) and some steep stairs, but nothing crazy. Also, despite suddenly finding ourselves on the top of Mount Sturgeon, at no point did it feel super steep or exhausting.
All in all, a very nice moderate hike with rewarding views. And Emi had the chance to look at a lot of things in detail :)
High Points
The Lion-King “One day, all of this will be yours” overhanging rock looking out all the way to (what we assume) is Mount Gambier, the Ottways or even the ocean? It is amazing how there is just flat land after the Grampians. Would love to hear more about the geology of something like that!
Low Points
They are fighting yet another invasive fungus (or something) on these trails (picture of Emi cleaning her feet). Yet another reminder on humanities “footprint” on everywhere we go.
