Kea, Sealy Tarns and some Mueller - Aoraki
The Hike
After a super wet and windy day up at Mount Cook, the next morning was blue skys and sunshine. All the mountains were visible - so hiking Kea Point/Sealy Tarns just seemed like a no-brainer.
The initial hike at the ground was pretty eventless except for the part where the melt runoff had swept away the path and one had to jump a small river to continue. Once I got to the stairs, things became a lot more exhausting a lot quicker. But the good kind - where every time you stop, you are greeted by amazing views of Aoraki and all the other mountains and glaciers.
I got all the way up to Sealy Tarns and even ventured a bit further towards Mueller Hut - but there were signs that I had just entered avalanche territory and the people at the information center said that the snow was waist high a bit further up. So I did the sensible, resposible thing and turned around at the snow line.
I think, talking to some of the other hikers, I could have gone a bit futher, but alas - such is life and I had some hot springs booking waiting for me…
High Points
The view of Aoraki/Mount Cook from various heights. What a stunning mountain/mountain range.
Low Points
I couldn’t make it further - but as a wise man said the night before - this just means I get to do it again!
